Maryland Foreclosure Homes Rise, But Aid is on the Way
by Joseph Smith
The volume of Maryland foreclosure homes climbed 32% in October 2008 from September, according to data released by California-based property tracker RealtyTrac Inc. There were about 3,000 households that went into foreclosure in the month. In comparison, the number was 16% lower than the volume a year ago. That made Maryland the only state in its region, which is also composed of Virginia and Washington, to have reported a decrease on foreclosed home filings year on year.
In general, the volume of Maryland foreclosure homes is still relatively high. No wonder, many homebuyers and home investors are swooning into the state to snap up dwellings at about 10% to 50% off the actual market prices. That simply translates to great savings on costs. These days, lower price tags on transactions do really mean a lot to buyers.
Many households are entering foreclosure processes due to mortgage defaults. Because of the current economic slowdown, more jobs are reduced and inflation is rising. Thus, the average households in the state are finding it harder to maintain repayments to mortgages. The result, the number of repossessions and foreclosures uncontrollably rise.
But homeowners are assured that fretting is not necessary. The state government of Maryland seems very bent to control and curtail the increasing volume of Maryland foreclosure homes. The state government has announced that six of the biggest mortgage banks in the state are agreeing to lengthen the duration of grace periods prior to foreclosures and to provide significant discounts on repayments. This way, the state hopes many households would be assisted and mortgage defaults could be effectively handled and curtailed.
